This editorial features Jourdan Dunn, Melodie Monrose, Chanel Iman, Ajak Deng, Arlenis Sosa, Sessilee Lopez, Rose Cordero, Kinee Diouf and Mia Aminata Niaria and it is absolutely breathtaking. Showcasing some of the season's most notable pieces was done beautifully, especially with Ajak in that orange Jill Sander dress! GORG. I also found it interesting that Franca, did this type of editorial given that she did an ALL black issue in July of 2008 which was shot by Steven Meisel.
Fashion industry insiders claim that black models are featured less often than other races because they are unable to sell. With all the controversy surrounding the topic, Italian Vogue's editor, Franca created the all black issue, which included supermodels like Alek Wek, Iman, Liya Kebede, Tyra Banks and Naomi Campbell. This specific issue blew up Toccara Jones' (ANTM contestant) career as the first black plus-sized model to be in the pages of the high fashion magazine. Instead of the issue not selling, it became the highest selling issues of Italian Vogue ever, and had run out of print TWICE. This marked the first time in Condé Nast publication history that the magazine reprinted an issue to satisfy demand. With this particular spread featuring contemporary models like Melodie, Jourdan, Mia, and others, is a great continuation of black issue model, which showcases just how gorgeous and sellable they are when compared to other races.
