Fashion News: Stefano Pilati OUT at Yves Saint Laurent

And another one bites the dust. Got the news this morning that March 8th will be YSL's current creative director and personally one of my favorites, Stefano Pilati's last show for the Paris fashion house. Seems like there's a lot of drama and outs right now with Jil Sander making her return to her label, forcing it's current head, Raf Simmons, out. If you read up on fashion news on the daily, then you've already known that Pilati and former YSL executive, Pierre Bergé, have had plenty of rifts for awhile now, so I suppose it was only a matter of time. As a designer, I truly admire Pilati for his understanding of elegance, chic, beauty, and women in general. I think his years at YSL were commercially strong and for the most part were critically well-received. Rumors are swirling that Raf Simmons and Hedi Slimane may take over, but only time will tell. I guess the March 8th show will be one highly anticipated presentation, but I'm more than confident it will not disappoint.

(Clearly MK is one lucky gal. How I'd love to locklips with Stefano like that..;))

After breaking news this morning reporting Amy Winehouse's death, I was a bit unsure about how I felt. I wasn't too sure if I felt surprised or not of her death given her past, but what I did feel was complete sadness; that a true talent like herself, was not able to rise and make her comeback despite all her troubles. Out of all the concerts i've been too, I am sad to say that I wasn't able to see her perform. These videos of her performing some of my favorites songs from her Back To Black album, showcase how truly gifted she was. Besides her music, she surprisingly impacted the fashion world by inspiring many high fashion editorials such as Vogue Paris and Numero. Plus, who could forget the bee-hives that walked Karl Lagerfeld's CHANEL collection at the Pre-Fall 2008 show? You will truly be missed, Amy. Rest In Paradise.

"It Gets Better: CBS Employees"

I am so proud to have interned at a corporation that takes action against bullying and sexual orientation discrimination. As a former intern at CBS with a superviser who was actively part of the LGBTQ community, it's great to see her involved in such a proactive, strong, and supportive movement towards equality and support for all. If you watch the video, my supervisor's name is Akilah, and I would love to give her a shout out on my blog! I'm so proud of her for being in this video and taking a stand against bullying, because it really is an issue for everyone and anyone growing up. It's not easy to hear things that may put you down, cry, or feel "worthless." Just thought I should blog about this, because at the end of it, it really does get better.

Anna Wintour & SF Giants for Gay Marriage/Equality

Vogue's infamous Editor-In-Chief, Anna Wintour is taking a stand and requesting all New Yorkers to vote for marriage equality, like that of her intern and NHL player, Sean Avery. Rejoice!! I'm sure being her position and who she is alone, that many New Yorkers will fall in favor for marriage equality.

Besides Wintour, I'm glad to have read an article that explained how the San Francisco Giants were in the process of filming a PSA for 'It Get's Better,' a national campaign for LGBTQ outreach. It truly seems like the world of today is moving forward with Gay rights and I can personally say that it is completely refreshing and exciting to see. Yet, there is still a ton to do, but I'm glad some of the most prominent teams, like the Giants are taking stand against homophobia. A spokesperson for the baseball team said:
"Details of the video are still being worked out so I can't provide you with specifics, but we are confirmed to produce and post a video." Like Perez Hilton, I am so very very proud to" hear that the baseball team will be the FIRST professional sports team in the history of sports to support the LGBT community by recording an "It Gets Better" video!" REJOICE!!!!

'Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty’ Exhibit at The MET

Although New York City's MET will be featuring a new exhibit profiling the great Alexander McQueen titled, "Savage Beauty," those on the west coast like my self only get to see glimpses of pieces from various collections online. As a consistently growing fashionista, like many, most can say that McQueen was our generation's 'IT' designer given his extraordinary talents. The British man was not only a designer, but an incredibly vivid visionaire. Despite his recent passing, I believe a majority of the fashion industry can say that his successor, Sarah Burton has done an impeccable job with moving the design house forward. The exhibit is open to the public starting May 4th, but will be previewed to those most coveted in the industry at this year's MET Gala co-chaired by fellow Brit designer, Stella McCartney.

Help Support Japan

Doesn't the photo above instill unbelievable sadness and fear in your body?! Such a tragedy. I got these amazing photos from The Atlantic, and couldn't help but post another blog about the awful 8.9 earthquake that happened almost a week ago in Northern Japan. My thoughts and prayers go to all those affected by the incredibly heart wrenching natural disaster. Do your part and help donate to the Red Cross here. Every cent counts. Thankfully the fashion industry has done their part by donating generously with giant retailers such as H&M, Uniqlo (25.6 million), and Coach (5 million). DO YOUR PART.

My thoughts go out to those in Japan and everywhere else being affected by the 8.8 Earthquake & Tsunami! =( So scary!! I really hope this isn't the end of the world, thoughts?

John Galliano FIRED from Christian Dior

John Galliano, the creative director for Dior, was fired effectively immediately this morning. Although Dior is expected to go on with it's Fall 2011 collection this Friday in Paris, Dior's president and CEO Sidney Toledano stated "“I condemn most firmly the statements made by John Galliano which are a total contradiction with the essential values that have always been defended by the House of Christian Dior.”

Galliano was dismissed due anti-semitic and racist accusations he had made last Monday at Le Perle, a Paris Cafe. Below is a video of one of many allegations accusing Galliano of racism and anti-semitism. From what it looks like, he's definitely guilty. Such a shame too, I absolutely adored John as a designer, for both his creative talent with Dior and his own line, John Galliano. I'm sure what has happened now, will only hurt his career and unfortunately it has with his dismissal from Dior. Dior's face of Miss Cherie parfum, Natalie Portman has released the following statement:

"I am deeply shocked and disgusted by the video of John Galliano's comments that surfaced today... In light of this video, and as an individual who is proud to be Jewish, I will not be associated with Mr. Galliano in any way. I hope at the very least, these terrible comments remind us to reflect and act upon combating these still-existing prejudices that are the opposite of all that is beautiful."

I wonder what Charlize Theron, a favorite of Dior's, thinks.. Au Revoir John! Now the question is, who will take over the reigns at Dior?!

One of the most influential people in not only the fashion industry, but in my life has resigned from her position as Editor In Chief. Carine Roitfeld of French Vogue has bid adieu to her position at one of the most coveted fashion publications in the world which she had ran for 10 years. Her editorials for the magazine were the best in the business, thought provoking, sexy, powerful, and glamourous. I will miss her; I wonder what Emmanuelle Alt will be doing now that her partner in crime is dunzo at the end of January. Then again I wonder who Carine's successor will be... RIP Brittany Murphy

So sad! Brittany died on Sunday, December 20th due to cardiac arrest. Like most celebrities, I'm sure there was much more involved with her death. Hopefully drugs or her weirdo of a husband didn't play a part in her death. I was such a huge fan of Brittany in Clueless, Uptown Girls, Happy Feet, and Sin City. Ashton was right, we lost little piece of sunshine. She had such a cute, kooky, sweet, and friendly presence when I saw her in interviews and in movies. She will be missed! =( RIParadise Brittany Murphy.
