"It Gets Better: CBS Employees"

I am so proud to have interned at a corporation that takes action against bullying and sexual orientation discrimination. As a former intern at CBS with a superviser who was actively part of the LGBTQ community, it's great to see her involved in such a proactive, strong, and supportive movement towards equality and support for all. If you watch the video, my supervisor's name is Akilah, and I would love to give her a shout out on my blog! I'm so proud of her for being in this video and taking a stand against bullying, because it really is an issue for everyone and anyone growing up. It's not easy to hear things that may put you down, cry, or feel "worthless." Just thought I should blog about this, because at the end of it, it really does get better.

CBS: Bay Sunday

So far, it has been an incredible journey interning at CBS and I'm really enjoying some of the things I do. I'm currently looking in to booking fellow comedians, DL Hughely and Margaret Cho on the show if all goes well! I was also very fortunate to have contacted Ingrid Michaelson and her management team about coming on the show before her performance in San Francisco! On previous segments of the show, we've had many many guests including Chef Tomm, Brooke White, Patty Duke, Marga Gomez (pictured), and many many more! I hope to personally book more guests for the show, because it really goes to show how well I can do on my own.

Are you interested in the yummiest reciepes, latest gadgets, and the latest in news/arts/community information in the Bay Area? Be sure to check out Bay Sunday and become a fan to check out what's current! Click here to be a fan!

Busy Busy Busy

Wow, with a 8am to 630pm Mon - Fri schedule, it's hard to find some time to yourself. It's only been a week with my new internship, but surprisingly it isn't affecting me. In fact, I'm enjoying being busy everyday and constantly having something to do. With my constant yearning to be ahead, it's challenged me a bit, but let's see if I can make it work this quarter. I have a lot ahead of me, so don't be upset if you rarely see posts this month or next month. =/ But we'll see what happens.

My internship at DIANI is everything and more than I expected. I'm constantly doing something whether it's steaming clothes, unpacking shipment/returns, answering the phones, creating advertisements for our mailing lists, styling shoots for promos, designing blog posts, managing our FB fan page, and more. The girls are also extremely awesome. Although I have a few weeks till Paris, I am super excited to come back for the fall. Especially when all the Isabel Marant Fall 2010 comes rolling through our doors! Not to mention DVF, our DVF Spring 2010 is I.N.C.R.E.D.I.B.L.E.

CBS is also going well. Akilah just asked me if I wanted to continue interning for her remotely next fall and it is something I am considering. How amazing would it be to intern for one the biggest broadcasting corporations in the world? I'm sure 2 years of experience there will only help me in terms of my career. But we'll see, it is still something I am contemplating.

New Chapter: DIANI Internship

diani

As life quickly unfolds, it was only a matter of time that I begin a new chapter in my life and I am finally proud to say it is an opportunity in the fashion industry. I was lucky enough to be accepted for an internship at Caroline Diani's boutique in downtown Santa Barbara called DIANI. It is a high fashion, eclectic mix of California meets Parisian chic boutique and I am super excited to be working with brands like Diane Von Furstenberg, Mary Kate and Ashley's Elizabeth & James, Chloe, LnA, Cynthia Vincent, Pleasure Doing Business, and the amazing Isabel Marant! I can not wait to see what this internship has in store for me, but I am truly grateful for this opporunity and will go into it whole heartedly. Fashion world, here I come.

Internship Update.

Now that I am officially 330 miles away from the CBS station, I am now continuing my full year internship from home or my new apartment I should say. It's actually pretty nice having to do all my work either on my desk in my PJ's or on my bed. Though it may seem like I can get away with more, that isn't the case, especially if you work for the great Akilah Bolden-Monifa.

I am constantly doing something. I currently have 3 ongoing projects, which include looking for comments on any of our Bay Sunday segments, suggesting friends to be fans of our Bay Sunday show on Facebook, and selecting guests for our National Heritage Month celebrations.

I've written a few pitches and weblinking, which has been really cool. The best thing yet has been writing a script for the hilarious actress Suzanne Whang, who has been on CBS's cold case, Nip/Tuck, HGTV's House Hunters, Two & a Half Men, Boston Legal, and NYPD Blue. That was super cool! I can't wait for winter break and actually be in the studio. I am thinking of maybe interning for radio with No Name at Live 105.5. I'd love to get different insights on different industries. Let's see if Akilah gives me the ok! =)

I have been thinking too, if I don't go to Paris this summer (which I better be), then I am planning my PLAN B, which is to go to Los Angeles and find an editorial internship. Either Harpers, Nylon, Teen Vogue, Vogue, and Interview would be amazing. So we'll see what life has to offer.

On a side note, my mother called me yesterday to inform me that my Auntie Marcy has passed. She was such an influential person in my life, it was truly shocking to hear from my mother that she has left me. She has been in my religious life since the beginning and even led my confirmation class. I am truly blessed to have met such an incredible women of such class, dignity, heart, kindness, and humor. I will love you forever Auntie Marcy. RIP.

The end of a Chapter.

AHHHHH! It is all over, practically. I can't believe I am 1. not working at Solstice anymore 2. not waking up at 7am for my internship, which is also kaput! 3. not in school, yet. I just honestly can't believe it is all over, well at least this chapter in my life. It was all fun while it lasted, and I guess I am ready for the next chapter my life has in store for me. So lets do a little rewind of the previous week, which was practically "GOODBYE" week for me from everyone.

Thursday, 09.03.09 - I wake up this morning about to attend my last day at the CBS station. I can't believe my summer internship is finally over! It went by so fast, I can't believe it has vanished right before my eyes. I have learned a tremendous amount of information that I'm sure will only advance my abilities and skills in the future world of PR for me. I am extremely lucky and thankful Akilah has given me such an opportunity. On my last day at the station, Akilah, knowing my interest in fashion, set me up with a fashion writer named Dino Ray Ramos. We had a fabulous lunch on Embarcadero, called Market Bar. I was able to convince and book him as a guest on our Bay Sunday show. Akilah and I were there during lunch to learn more about him and to reassure his position during the segment. He seems like he will be a great guest for the show, which tapes on September, 18th. I'm going to try my hardest to make it back to the bay for the taping! After all, I did book my first guest, and he's a fashion writer! He's also going to be taping the week before fashion week in NYC, so he told me he would have a ton of stories!

At the end of the day at my internship, my supervisor basically gives me the option to work remotely while I'm at school. I think interning at school for a whole year, will definitely look good on my resume. Plus, I will not only learn and experience more things, but I will be able to build better references. So yes, it is only the end of my internship physically at the CBS station. I will continue being an intern remotely, we'll see how that goes.

Later that night, I meet up with my coworkers for a goodbye dinner at the Cheesecake Factory. It was great to see Shannon, who left us last year because she was about to attend UC Riverside. She has grown up so much! The dinner really made it seem like everything was coming to an end as I ended my internship earlier that day. It was great to be with the whole staff and just reminisce on our two year journey together. I will truly miss them.

Friday, 09.04.09 - Don't remember what happened, but I do remember going to La Pinata with the girls and having our first pitcher of margaritas together now that we are all of age. yay!

Saturday, 09.05.09
- Don't remember what happened during the day, but at night all of our friends were going to celebrate my bff's 21st birthday. Long story short, everyone ends up flaking. Krystle gets upset, and I would too if everyone abandoned me on my birthday (oh wait that already happened, lol). Anna and I then just take her out to the Cheesecake Factory for drinks. It ends up becoming an eventful and wonderfully memorable dinner filled with calamari, drinks galore, and red velvet cheesecake!

Sunday, 09.06.09 - I wake up and start to get ready for my day. Anna, Krystle and I plan on helping Camilla out with some wedding dress shopping. We went to some place in Fremont, and we didn't find much. But we did find about 2 we liked overall. Check out her blog at projecthealthierbride.blogspot.com. I'm sure she'll be posting about it soon! It was such a reality check when I saw her come out in her first dress! She was such beauty, I was speechless! AHHHH! And out of our close knit of cousins, she will be the first one getting married! It will also be an honor to take part in the process of her wedding plans. I hope I can make it out to Vegas for her bachelorette party!

Later that night, I was planning on going out to dinner with the seven of my friends as a little goodbye celebration. I'm so lazy to blog right now that I'm just going to cut to the chase. They ended up throwing me a surprise "going away" party, which was more than I could ask for. I didn't know my friends planned it all a week before, and I was so overwhelemed to see everyone there. My coworkers, ex coworkers, family, and friends were all there. It was definitely a nice sight to see as I wasn't looking forward to saying goodbyes individually to everyone I knew. This party made it easier to say "see you later." =) Thanks to my good friends for throwing and putting this all together, I'm sure it wasn't easy. Ahhh I will everyone!

Today, 09.07.09 - I picked up my bed in Palo Alto this morning, while I'm hungover. I pretty much have all my things ready for my move in to SB. At this point I'm super stocked and just want to get started! I can't wait for this weekend as my family and friends will be coming along with me to help unpack and get settled in. AHHHH! 3 more days! =/

Rewind.

Lets do a quick rewind.

Thursday, 08.06.09 - It's one of my favorite fellow intern's last day, Sanyee! =( PhotobucketMy favorite and only Harvard friend finally had her last day on Thursday. I immediately fell in love with her bright and bubbly personality. She is such an amazing person and she truly is someone who can lighten up your day if your not feeling too shabby. I will miss all our lovely talks, lunches, brown bag lunches, PA-ing on all our CBS shows, and so much more. I have learned a bunch from her. Can't wait to visit her in Boston! Hopefully I'll be able to come up in the fall or spring. I'd love to see what an Ivy League school looks like!

Thursday, 08.06.09 (later that same night) to Saturday, 08.08.09
- I come home late from working at CBS (since it was Sanyee's last day, I decided to stay till 5pm and meet her lovely mum) and start to pack. I'm leaving for UCSB's transfer orientation. I was super excited! We left about 11pm and got there at about 3am. Pick up the keys to my future apartment from Anh's friend Tom, who is super cute. Then we settle in and fall asleep. The next morning I wake up and meet my parents at Campbell Hall on the UCSB campus. They go out on a tour as I check in. Orientation was from 8am to 5pm. It was a full day of getting to know the school, how to pick classes, how to register for full major, what the requirements are for graduation, and much more. I got to take my UCSB ID and buy a UCSB sweatshirt. It hasn't all sunk in yet that I'm moving, but at the end of the day it all started to turn into reality. After orientation, I meet up with Anna and Krystle. I take em out to my favorite pizza parlor, Woodstocks! We have a fabulous meal and decide to go back to the apartment and drink there. We get a little crazy and fall asleep around 12am, because we're all exhausted. Later that morning we wake up and decide to go get some lunch at Freebirds. We then go buy some booze, drink, dance a whole lot, and decide to swim at the apartment. I HAVE A FREAKING SWIMMING POOL IN MY APARTMENT COMPLEX! SO COOL. It's actually right in front of my apartment as well. =) Anna basically has too much to drink and end up passing out by the toilet. *memories. We basically have a fabulous time talking about all the things life has to offer from friends, family, love, and sex! There was lot of details, but lets just say college life in SB is too much fun. I can't wait for them to come visit me, when they help me move and settle in. When they leave me from there, it will truly hit me. =( I LOVE MY BFF's. Here's a picture of my future room, I can't wait to spruce it all up with my inner interior designer! It's going to look A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! So remember what it looks like currently, It's definitely going to be the before picture. Don't cha love our flat screen? haha

Sunday, 08.09.09 - The girls and I leave around noon. It was sad to find out that our last road trip of the summer was coming to an end. We leave and eat at a local breakfast place called, Cajun Kitchen. I've been there last Halloween, and it was amazing, so I had to take them there. They loved the food and we left super full. From there we headed to 101. Got home around 7pm I believe. Later that night, we decided to go swimming since the night was still surprisingly hot. Once again we get into our deep bff conversations about friends, family, the future, and sex. haha. Never gets old. We then head back to my place, as my dad cooked pasta. We were weirdly hungry, so we ate that and a whole bunch of other things. Then we called it a night and finally ended our time together.

Monday, 08.10.09 - HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOTHER! My siblings and I wake up around 10am, and decide to take my mother our on her birthday. What way to celebrate then go out to Emeryville and San Francisco during this fabulous weather. We first go to Ikea. I needed to pick up a few things when I move out. Left with about 200 dollars of damage, and that isn't even my furniture yet! We decide to eat lunch there and I treat myself to a Greek salad, my favs! I end up coming out with my bed sheets as well as a duvet (which is something I wanted for so long!), a desk chair, laundry bags, a side table, tea light candle holders, and some other things I can't remember. After that we head to the city to treat us to some shopping. My sister and I pick up a few items at AA on Front street. We continue to walk around the city and end up having dinner at The Cheesecake Factory. Then we called it a night and are now at home. I am truly going to miss my mother when I move out. =( I'm such a mama's boy, and I know my mom relies a lot on me. I see her already freaking out with my two rambunctious siblings at home when I'm away. <3 Her.

Tasty.

Look at the cake I got to enjoy at my internship today! CBS 5 Eye on The Bay did a segment on Half Moon Bay's Elegant Cakes, which are absolutely amazing! I checked them out online and their cakes range from $150 to $3,500!! It was absolutely bananas. It was a chocolate cheesecake and it was basically a shirt with a bunch of CBS 5 related logos and Bay Area stuff. It even had a rainbow to represent SF's Pride. Oh, and the sand, seashells, starfish, and sand dollars were all edible too!! It was absolutely delicious, I had to come back twice. What a glorious Wednesday.

Internship Update.

Now that I'm in my third week at CBS5/The CW 44 Cable 12, I am getting so exhausted. I feel like I don't have a summer, now that I'm waking up 7:30am every Monday through Thursday Morning! When I come home from my days, I just feel like taking a fat nap. I guess the bart ride and working in the city gets the best of you. I'm pretty sure it had something to do with the fast paced, non stop atmosphere. I'm always doing something! Although I am glad we get one hour breaks, but a lot of the times i sacrifice my breaks, because I have a load of work to do. But hey I can't complain. I got to meet a majority of the anchors, see live production of the Noon News and Susan Sakora, be in a bollywood film while they were producing "His Name is Kahn" in our news room!!!, and just get a lot of PR/Communication/Media/Production experience. I've learned so much from writing press releases, pitching stories, dubbing tapes, meeting with guests, and above all I get to gain access and meet people at the top of this industry.
In my department there are about 6 interns. Gabriela, Justin, and Christopher (who I haven't met since he only works Friday and I never work Friday) go to Cal. Them two are super nice and have been at the station interning for about three years. Jesse is probably the one I connect with the most and she goes to Syracuse University in upstate New York. She's super pretty, smart, driven, and amazing..just like me. Maybe that's why I get along so well with her. I'm actually going on an interview with her for Students Rising Above at Golden Gate Park. That will be exciting since it'll be my first on sight taping. There's also Sanyee, who is the super bubbly Asian girl from HARVARD! Kelsey just started this week and I learned she's from UCSB! She totally reminds me of my friend Nicole, the blond hair, super outgoing, and the raspy voice. They all are super cool to work with. But yea, thought I'd blog a bit about my internship thus far. I'm going to take a fat nap now. Bye!

Quick Update.

Let see.

Tuesday - Arrived back home around 9pm after Jen (Jamie's sister) picks us up. Friends some over and I talked about NYC. Give em their souvenirs I bought em.

Wendesday - With no work or internship this day, I decided to devote a whole day to staying in and resting. I was extremely jet lagged. Staying in the East Coats for a week really takes its toll on you after you get used to their three hour advanced time.

Thursday - Woke up around 8am to get reay for my first day at my internship at The CW/CBS 5. It was a great feeling to know I was going somewhere and moving forward with my career, especially in the city. Even though I would love to do PR in the fashion industry I believe this experience will only help me excel. I got to work the phones for a bit, create events to add onto CBS's community calender and research a few things for the Director of Communications/PR, Akliah Monifa (who is also my supervisor). It was official when Akilah's assistant Dee Dee showed me my desk and around the studio. I got to meet one of the anchors, which was cool. The cherry on top was when I got to take my picture for my badge which was super cool! I can't wait to see what I gain from this at the end of my summer term here.

Later that night, I went to finally go see Star Trek with Tim. He's finally back from Miami, and it was good to see him. The movie was really good, just like everyone said. Chris Pine and Zachery Quinto are super hot.

Friday - Went back to work after almost two weeks. Went by pretty fast. The girls decided to come over and we drank a bit and planned for Anna's Birthday. We plan on taking a road trip down to Southern California and visiting Disneyland, which she loves. Can't wait! After I came back from NYC I was bummed I didn't have much to look forward to. Now I have the No Doubt concert and her birthday to look forward too!

Tomorrow - I work. I plan on finally washing my car. Haven't gotten the chance to wash it since I got it. haha Sophia plans on having a little parlay at her casa since her parents will be in LA, so I'm excited about that. But bummed I'll have to leave early since I have to wake up early the next morning for my internship! =( But its cool i guess.

About to post NYC pics. get readyy! =)

<33 Ish.

The CW/CBS 5

I just got my first full fledged internship at The CW/CBS 5!! I'm super excited! Thought I should just mention that in my blog! Yay, the ball is finally rolling! Bring it on bitches!!
